Our Story

Martini Strings began in the early 1990s as a string trio and has continued providing fine classical music for events in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast. We have predominantly played for weddings, although over the years we have also been seen at birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, Christmas parties and product launches.

Since 2012, original compositions by Alison Harbottle for student String Orchestras have become available and are now available in our online store. Alison's interest in composition began at an early age, with several notable works written in her teen years. Through many years of arranging and transcribing string and other music, on top of her university studies, she gained an expert understanding of how music works and what sounds good. Partner that with over 20 years teaching experience and you get works which are fun for students to play, enjoyable for audiences to listen to, and pedagogically valuable. All published works are available for purchase in our online Store

Martini Strings - History
Originally comprised of three players who had grown up together, the trio's name was chosen with a double-meaning: Martini the drink (of course), and Martini the little-known composer, whose "Gavotte" we were all forced to play to within an inch of our lives! All students of the same teachers, we spent many teenage Saturday afternoons playing Mozart, Pachelbel, Bach, refreshments, and copious quantities of other chamber music. As we moved on to University study, chamber music became a love rather than a class, and the decision was made to formalise a group to be available to play at functions. All players are tertiary-trained on their instrument, with significant performance experience. Samples of our playing can be heard below, or head over to the Contact page and drop us a line if you'd like to see if we're available to play at your event.
